Abode of Peace is a photographic and filmic narrative exploring the search for identity in a world shaped by migration and heritage. Created in collaboration with artist Tizegwire and local makers in Tanzania, it unfolds in six scenes—religion, craft, sport, love, work, and future, universal themes that also resonate in the Netherlands.

For many young people with a dual identity, the daily challenge lies in balancing integration with staying true to their roots.

The exhibition makes this tangible: Kunduchi reflects faith and resilience, Tengeneza celebrates the strength of collective building, Simba and Yanga reveal how rivalry can also connect, Posa portrays love as a bridge between generations, Mzizima shows labor as the foundation of the city, and Urithi speaks of the responsibility to pass on heritage.

As a maker, I live between worlds myself. My personal search is mirrored in these scenes, opening a dialogue: How can we draw strength from tradition without being confined by it? How can difference become a source of pride and a vision for the future?

What does it mean to be both heir to yesterday and builder of tomorrow, in an age where the internet reshapes identities, creating new connections but also new inequalities? These are the questions Abode of Peace seeks to raise, and the ones that continue to guide my artistic journey.

The first behind-the-scenes preview took place during the African Food Festival, offering the public an initial glimpse intothe project. The images you see here on the website are part of that preview—fragments of a larger story still in the making. Abode of Peace will soon return as a full exhibition, guided by a short documentary that deepens the narrative.
